Purpose

 

As an Actuarial Expert at AlphaLife , you will join the Actuarial Function and play a key role in ensuring the accuracy of technical provisions, actuarial valuations, and regulatory reporting. You will perform actuarial analyses, support reserving, pricing, and risk assessment activities, contribute to process improvements and automation initiatives, and partner with Finance, Product Development, Risk Management, and other business functions to support sound decision-making and compliance with Solvency II and IFRS requirements.

 

 

What you will be doing

 

  • Calculate and review Technical Provisions in accordance with Solvency II and IFRS requirements, ensuring the adequacy of insurance liabilities and the accuracy of actuarial valuations.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance actuarial models used for reserving, pricing, financial reporting, capital assessment, and profitability analysis.
  • Perform pricing analyses, profitability assessments, and actuarial reviews to support the development and enhancement of life insurance products, providing actuarial input on product design, policy features, and risk selection criteria.
  • Conduct experience studies and evaluate actuarial assumptions, ensuring methodologies remain robust, appropriate, and aligned with business performance and emerging market trends.
  • Assess underwriting, insurance, and market risks through quantitative analysis, supporting capital management, stress testing, scenario analysis, and the Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA).
  • Prepare actuarial analyses, technical documentation, and regulatory and financial reporting deliverables, ensuring compliance with Solvency II, IFRS, actuarial standards, and internal governance requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance actuarial methodologies, improve data quality, automate processes, and strengthen the accuracy, efficiency, and reliability of actuarial calculations and reporting.
  • Partner closely with Finance, Risk Management, Product Development, Underwriting, and other business functions to provide actuarial expertise and support business initiatives.
  • Translate complex actuarial analyses and technical findings into clear, actionable insights that support senior management in strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Contribute to business planning by evaluating the financial and risk impact of strategic initiatives, product changes, portfolio developments, and emerging regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and emerging industry practices, recommending enhancements that strengthen actuarial methodologies, regulatory compliance, and business performance.

 

 

What you need to have

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or another related quantitative discipline.
  • Master's degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, or another relevant field will be considered an asset.
  • At least 6 years of professional experience within the Actuarial function of a Life Insurance company or in an actuarial consulting or audit firm.
  • Professional actuarial qualification or active progress towards qualification through a recognized local or international actuarial body is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in actuarial valuation, reserving, technical provisions, and financial reporting under Solvency II and IFRS, with a strong understanding of actuarial methodologies and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong experience in actuarial modeling, pricing, experience studies, underwriting risk assessment, scenario testing, and supporting ORSA and capital management activities.
  • Advanced analytical and data management skills, with hands-on experience using actuarial software and tools such as Prophet, SQL, Python, R, or Excel (including VBA, Pivot Tables, and Power Query). Knowledge of statistical modeling, predictive analytics, or machine learning will be considered an advantage.
  • Familiarity with IFRS 17 and IFRS 9 will be considered a strong advantage.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and translate findings into practical business recommendations.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, build strong cross-functional relationships, and manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality results within deadlines.
  • Demonstrate sound business judgment and a solid understanding of life insurance products, policyholder behavior, profitability drivers, and the regulatory environment.
